Kishimoto returns to Naruto manga as a four-episode Ninkū crossover takes shape
New York Comic Con brought a new manga teaser, an anime collaboration and a wider franchise roadmap. Here is what the official announcements actually confirm.
Masashi Kishimoto is drawing a new Naruto manga, while Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura are heading into the world of Ninkū in a separate four-episode anime. The projects were unveiled at the “NARUTO: What’s Next?” event at New York Comic Con on October 10, 2026. [1] [2]
A manga reveal with more details still to come
The manga appeared as the panel’s closing surprise. The official recap describes storyboard imagery of the Hidden Leaf Village’s Hokage monument, with a seventh face under construction. Other images show Naruto holding a Hokage hat, familiar members of Team Seven and a clash between Naruto and Sasuke. [1]
Those images offer clues, rather than a complete published synopsis. The October announcements do not supply a publication date or serialization schedule for the manga. They point instead to further information at Jump Festa 2027, taking place December 19–20, 2026, at Makuhari Messe in Japan. The event’s name refers to 2027, but its announced dates fall in 2026. [1]
The crossover reaches back to an inspiration
NARUTO x NINKŪ is a distinct animation project supervised by Kishimoto and Ninkū creator Koji Kiriyama. Its premise sends Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura on an assignment from Kakashi. Naruto becomes acting leader, and the group loses its way into another world, where it encounters Fūsuke. [3]
Ninkū began as Kiriyama’s manga in 1993 and reached television in 1995. Kishimoto has described the series as a major influence on Naruto and the collaboration as a chance to return to a story he wanted to see continue. The crossover’s official credits name Noriyuki Abe as director, Tetsuya Nishio for animation character design and PIERROT FILMS for animation production. [3]
The four-episode count belongs to this crossover. It should not be read as the length of the newly teased manga, or as an announced full-length Naruto remake. [2] [3]
Part of a broader rollout
VIZ also announced PROJECT RASENGAN, a multiyear collaboration covering new franchise content. The panel’s other developments included a worldwide Naruto Card Game launch planned for June 2027 and plans to expand Naruto Mobile beyond its existing Chinese-market release. [2]
These projects are at different stages. A specified card-game launch month does not establish a release date for the manga or crossover anime. For readers following the new stories, the confirmed next milestone is the December Jump Festa update. [1] [2]
