Brock Purdy’s four-game no-sack streak ended in Seattle, but the 49ers kept winning
San Francisco opened 2026 with four sack-free games. Seattle recorded three sacks on October 11, while the 49ers improved to 5–0.
Brock Purdy’s sack-free start to the 2026 season lasted four games. The Seattle Seahawks ended that run on October 11, recording three sacks, but San Francisco still left Lumen Field with a 32–29 victory and a 5–0 record. Four weeks without a sack
The 49ers completed their fourth consecutive sack-free game in a 24–14 win over Denver on October 4. Purdy finished that afternoon with 19 completions on 30 attempts, 218 passing yards and two touchdowns. [4]
The Associated Press reported that San Francisco was the first team to open a season with four games without allowing a sack since the 2005 Indianapolis Colts. It was the fifth such start since team sacks began being tracked in 1963. [3]
Against Denver, the offense also produced 140 rushing yards. George Kittle caught four passes for 70 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown reception late in the fourth quarter that helped secure the win. [4]
Seattle broke through
Defensive tackle Byron Murphy II accounted for two of Seattle’s three sacks on October 11; linebacker Ernest Jones IV recorded the other. Murphy also generated seven pressures, matching his career high, according to the Seahawks’ report citing NFL Next Gen Stats. [1]
That performance illustrates why a sack total captures only part of a passing game. Seattle was able to disrupt Purdy and end the streak, yet those defensive successes did not decide the final result. [1] [2]
An unbeaten record survived
San Francisco entered the fourth quarter trailing 26–21. Purdy’s seven-yard touchdown pass to Brandin Cooks, followed by a two-point completion to Mike Evans, put the 49ers ahead 29–26. Seattle then tied the score. [2]
Eddy Piñeiro’s 44-yard field goal with two minutes remaining restored the lead. On Seattle’s final fourth-down attempt, Malik Mustapha tackled Cooper Kupp one yard short of the line to gain, sealing the 32–29 result. [2]
The outcome left two different records to describe: the protection streak had ended after four games, while the 49ers’ winning start extended to five. [1] [2]
