Odell Beckham Jr. was elevated by the Vikings, then inactive in New Orleans

Minnesota’s October 10 roster move raised the possibility of an OBJ debut. Its October 11 inactive list supplied the answer.

Odell Beckham Jr. did not make his Minnesota Vikings debut against the New Orleans Saints on October 11. The Vikings placed him on their game-day inactive list after elevating him from the practice squad the previous afternoon. [1] [2] The distinction resolves the question in OddityDrop’s pregame Instagram post: the elevation created a possibility, but the final availability decision kept him out. [1] [2]

How the opportunity arose

Minnesota announced Beckham’s practice-squad signing on October 7, alongside receiver Jeshaun Jones. Three days later, the team elevated both receivers for the visit to New Orleans. [2] [3]

The Vikings said Beckham’s elevation followed uncertainty over Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, who had been listed as questionable. By Sunday, Jefferson was cleared to play, while Addison joined Beckham on the inactive list. The official announcement establishes their availability without offering a separate explanation for Beckham’s inactive designation. [1]

Familiar coaches and a hometown connection

The move reunited Beckham with head coach Kevin O’Connell and offensive coordinator Wes Phillips, who were with the Los Angeles Rams during his 2021 championship season. In that postseason, Beckham caught 21 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns. [3]

New Orleans also carried personal history. Beckham is from the city and played at LSU from 2011 to 2013, including a season alongside quarterback Jordan Jefferson, Justin’s older brother. The Giants selected Beckham twelfth overall in the 2014 draft. [3]

A memorable earlier Superdome appearance

The Vikings’ elevation announcement recalled Beckham’s November 1, 2015 visit with the Giants, when he caught eight passes for 130 yards and three touchdowns. Drew Brees countered with seven touchdown passes for New Orleans. [2]

Minnesota also noted that Beckham played for Miami in 2024, did not play in 2025 and briefly returned to the Giants during the 2026 offseason. His October 2026 Vikings story therefore began with a practice-squad agreement and an elevation, followed by an inactive designation for the Saints game. [1] [2] [3]
